Corpo e representação social da mulher com Síndrome de Down: análise dialógico-metafuncional do gênero fotografia na exposição Inside out

Esta pesquisa ancora-se nas obras do Círculo de Bakhtin, em específico Bakhtin (2011), Volóchinov (2017), na dinâmica das representações sociais, consoante Moscovici (2007), Marková (2006) e na perspectiva teórica e metodológica da Gramática do Design Visual (KRESS; VAN LEEUWEN,2006). Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar como as fotografias da exposição Inside Out (re)constroem a representação social da mulher com Síndrome de Down. Para trazer à baila os discursos de representações sociais materializados via imagem, além do levante teórico e metodológico de epistemologias linguísticas e da psicologia social, empreendemos uma arqueologia do corpo do sujeito protagonista das fotografias, ou seja, muitas representações, que estão inseridas nas fotografias da exposição, são oriundas de discursos provenientes de outras esferas sociais que estigmatizam o corpo com Down. Nesta pesquisa, optou-se por uma miscelânea teórica de autores que estudam o corpo, contudo, enfatizaram-se os estudos de Courtine (2019). As fotografias que compõem o corpus são provenientes da exposição Inside Out realizada no período de 21 de março a 25 de março de 2018, em Nova York, de 28 de março a 11 de abril em Miami e, no segundo semestre de 2018 chegou ao Brasil. Das 21 imagens expostas na Inside Out, escolhemos 5 fotografias para executar o movimento analítico. O método utilizado para análise foi a Análise Dialógica do Discurso (BRAIT, 2006) e as diretrizes da Gramática do Design Visual (KRESS; VAN LEEUWEN, 2006), culminando, assim, em uma proposta dialógico-metafuncional. Com base nos dados obtidos, constatamos que a exposição atualiza a representação arrefecida do corpo com Down, através dos modos de significação presente no gênero fotografia, por meio do diálogo com quatro horizontes sociais, a saber, o artístico-renascentista, o Bíblico, o biológico/genético, o da sedução, e o familiar. Deste modo, a exposição rompe com o discurso do senso comum que se tem sobre a Síndrome de Down e apresenta novos efeitos de sentido sobre a representação social desses sujeitos, alinhando-os ao belo, ao sensual, ao persuasivo, ao constituído dialogicamente e ao empoderado.
Abstract:
This research is anchored in the works of the Bakhtin Circle, in particular Bakhtin (2011), Voloshinov (2017), in the dynamics of social representations, according to Moscovici (2007), Marková (2006) and in the theoretical and methodological perspective of the Grammar of Visual Design (KRESS; VAN LEEUWEN, 2006). This study aims to analyze how the photographs from the Inside Out exhibition (re)construct the social representation of women with Down Syndrome. In order to bring up the discourses of social representations materialized in images, in addition to the theoretical and methodological upheaval of linguistic epistemologies and social psychology, we undertake an archeology of the protagonist’s body in the photographs, because many representations, which are inserted in the photographs of the exhibition, come from discourses from other social spheres that stigmatize the body with Down. In this research, a theoretical miscellany of authors who study the body was chosen; however, the studies by Courtine (2019) were emphasized. The photographs that make up the corpus come from the Inside Out exhibition held from March 21 to March 25, 2018, in New York, from March 28 to April 11 in Miami and, in the second half of 2018, it arrived in Brazil. Out of the 21 images exhibited at Inside Out, we selected 5 photographs to perform the analytical movement. The method used for analysis was the Dialogic Discourse Analysis (BRAIT, 2006) and the guidelines of the Grammar of Visual Design (KRESS; VAN LEEUWEN, 2006), thus culminating in a dialogic-metafunctional proposal. Based on the data obtained, we found that the exhibition updates the cooled down representation of the body with Down, through the modes of meaning present in the photographic genre, by means of the dialogue with four social horizons, namely, the artistic-Renaissance, the Biblical, the biological /genetic, the seduction, and the familiar. In this way, the exhibition breaks with the common sense discourse that one has about the Down Syndrome and presents new effects of meaning on the social representation of these subjects, aligning them with the beautiful, the sensual, the persuasive, the dialogically constituted and the empowered.
