Abstract:
Obesity is considered a complex public health problem. Its multifactorial etiology does not have qualifications which are difficult to control. Studies indicate that university students are among the vulnerable groups for the development of reduced eating behavior and excessive weight. Linked risk factors such as new academic demands, inability to solve problems and emotional issues indulges this context. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between eating behavior using anthropometric indicators and Common Mental Disorder (CMD) in university students in the health sciences field. This was a cross-sectional study with 323 students from Fortaleza, Ceará. A survey carried out during the year of 2018 collected sociodemographic and anthropometric data by measuring waist circumference, weight and height. Additionally, it was collected information related to eating behavior through the Dutch Food Behavior Questionnaire (QHCA). The potential for the development of TMC was verified using the Self-Report Questionnaire (SRQ-20). For data analysis, a level of significance of 5% was adopted in all tests. Between participation in eating practices, anthropometric indicators, and CMD we use Poisson regression. To verify the uses of the QHCA, the tests were analyzed as factorial. Finally, to identify or standardize eating behavior, we divided sample into quartiles, with those belonging to quartile 1 (Q1), quartile 2 (Q2) and quartile 3 (Q3) being classified as "with less quantity" to a given behavior, and members of quartile 4 (Q4) classified as "with greater adherence". We observed that the frequency of students with potential for CMD was 43.6%, and was associated with food intake due to emotional motivation (PR = 1.10; 95% CI = 1.02-1.19) and external factors (PR = 1.08; CI = 1.01 - 1.16), but not due to restrictive motivation. There are 29.7% of overweight students. Both overweight students (PR = 1.24; 95% CI = 1.14 - 1.34), and abdominal obesity (PR = 1.08; 95% CI = 1, 01 - 1.17) were correlated to food intake due to restrictive motivation, but not to emotional and external intake. It was concluded that the frequency of students with potential for CMD was high, and as a condition it was associated with emotional and external emotional behavior, while overweight students were more likely to have more restrictive eating behavior.
