O LIBERALISMO COMO MANIFESTAÇÃO DO TOTALITARISMO NO PENSAMENTO DE HERBERT MARCUSE

Resumo:
A presente dissertação tem por objetivo discutir a atualidade do totalitarismo no mundo contemporâneo, não como forma de governo propriamente dita, mas sim em ferramentas de controle dos seres humanos. Mesmo com o fim das duas Grandes Guerras do século passado, as sociedades modernas apresentam traços de dominação da população que se assemelham às experiências de governo total que o mundo vivenciou no período mencionado. Para alcançar tal objetivo, fará-se uso dos escritos de dois filósofos do século XX que estão entre os maiores nomes no estudo da questão totalitária: Herbert Marcuse e Hannah Arendt. Através da obra As Origens do Totalitarismo de Hannah Arendt, pretende-se mostrar o funcionamento do movimento totalitário quando apareceu pela primeira vez no mundo. Arendt lança um olhar histórico-político da questão totalitária, que buscou em elementos já existentes na Europa as bases para a formação da estrutura do movimento – como o Antissemitismo presente no continente europeu desde a Idade Média. Fará-se também uso dois escritos de Herbert Marcuse: o texto O Combate ao Liberalismo na Concepção Totalitária de Estado, presente em Cultura e Sociedade. Nele, Marcuse analisa as bases da ‘teoria total’ como se originando da fase monopolista do capitalismo. Por fim, fará-se uso da obra O Homem Unidimensional, também de Marcuse, que faz uma análise profunda das formas de controle e alienação presentes nas sociedades de hoje. Abstract:
This thesis aims at discussing the actuality of Totalitarianism in the world of today, not as a distinctive form of government, but in the shape of tools used to control human beings. Even after the end of the two Great Wars from last century modern societies show traits of populace domination that resemble (when not directly taken from) the political experiences of total government the world has lived in the aforementioned period. To achieve such a goal we will make use from writings from two 20th century philosophers, whom are amongst the greatest names on the totalitarian question: Herbert Marcuse and Hannah Arendt. Through the book The Origins of Totalitarianism from Hannah Arendt we intend to show the functionality of the totalitarian movement when it first appeared on the world. Arendt takes a historical-political look on the totalitarian question, which took previously existing elements in Europe to serve as the foundations to the movement – such as Anti-Semitism present in the European continent since the Middle Ages. Additionally we will make use of two more writings from Herbert Marcuse: The Struggle against Liberalism in the totalitarian view of the state, present in Culture and Society. In it, Marcuse analyzes the structures of ‘total theory’ the way it had originated from the monopolistic era of capitalism. And to conclude the train of thought, we will take the book One-Dimensional Man: Studies in the Ideology of Advanced Industrial Society, also from Marcuse, making a profound groundwork on the forms of control and alienation on today’s societies.
