À MARGEM DA LUZ E ESTES: PROPOSTA DE LEGENDA PARA SURDOS E ENSURDECIDOS DE DOIS CURTA-METRAGENS PARAIBANOS

Resumo:
Esta monografia consiste na elaboração e análise de legendas para surdos e ensurdecidos (LSE) de dois curta-metragens do diretor paraibano Torquato Joel: À Margem da Luz (2006) e Estes (2010). A produção das LSE se pautou em parâmetros apresentados por pesquisadores da área de tradução audiovisual (TAV) (IVARSSON; CARROL, 1998; KARAMITROGLOU, 1998; DIAZ CINTAS; REMAEL, 2007; NEVES, 2007; NAVES et al., 2016) e validados e adaptados com base nos resultados de pesquisas de recepção (FRANCO; ARAÚJO, 2003; ARAÚJO, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008; ARAÚJO; NASCIMENTO, 2011; ARAÚJO; ASSIS, 2014) realizadas com surdos brasileiros. Esta pesquisa tem caráter descritivo e a análise de dados é de cunho qualiquantitativo. A análise qualitativa de dados buscou observar as escolhas da legendista no processo de legendagem das falas espontâneas dos personagens dos documentários a fim de adequar a velocidade de leitura das legendas para o máximo de 180 palavras por minuto. A análise quantitativa, por sua vez, contabilizou as ocorrências de redução, omissão e explicitação (NAVES et al., 2016) nas legendas, além das categorias de som (NASCIMENTO, 2013) presentes nos dois filmes. Os resultados das análises apontaram grande ocorrência de omissões, sobretudo de marcas de oralidade, revelando a possibilidade de reduzir o número de caracteres das legendas sem comprometer a mensagem de uma obra. Em relação aos sons explicitados, houve grande presença da categoria ‘instrumentos musicais’, seguida por ‘sons produzidos pelo homem’. Palavras-chave: Tradução audiovisual. Acessibilidade. LSE.
Abstract:
This monograph consists in the elaboration and analysis of subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing (SDH) of two short films by Torquato Joel, a director from the state of Paraíba, in Brazil: À Margem da Luz (Aside from the light) (2006) and Estes (Those) (2010). The production of the SDH was based on parameters presented by researchers from the field of audiovisual translation (AVT) (IVARSSON; CARROL, 1998; KARAMITROGLOU, 1998; DIAZ CINTAS; REMAEL, 2007; NEVES, 2007; NAVES et al., 2016), and validated and adapted according to the results of reception studies (FRANCO; ARAÚJO, 2003; ARAÚJO, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008; ARAÚJO; NASCIMENTO, 2011; ARAÚJO; ASSIS, 2014) carried out with deaf subjects from Brazil. This study has a descriptive nature and its data analysis is qualiquantitative. The qualitative analysis aimed at observing the choices made by the subtitler in the process of subtitling the spontaneous speeches of the characters from the documentaries in order to adequate the reading speed of the subtitles to the maximum of 180 words per minute. The quantitative analysis, on the other hand, computed the occurrences of reduction, omission and explicitation (NAVES et al., 2016) in the subtitles, as well as the sound categories (NASCIMENTO, 2013) present in the two films. The results showed that omissions, specially of oral speech markers, were very frequent, revealing the possibility of reducing the number of characters in the subtitles without compromising the message of an audiovisual work. Regarding the sounds that were made explicit, there was a strong presence of the category ‘music instruments’, followed by ‘sounds produced by humans’. Keywords: Audiovisual translation.
