This present paper aims at evaluating if the actions utilized by the Department of
Public Safety and Social Defense (Secretaria de Segurança Pública e Defesa Social
- SSPDS) were effective through the Cultural Ronda Project (Projeto Ronda Cultural),
which used the hip hop culture as an approximation strategy between the Military
Police and the youth. Aiming to support this study, a research was realized on
different themes such as public security, police, youth and hip hop culture based on
literature analyses that have been published in formats of books, magazines, movies,
several publications and others, as well as, field research at the schools where the
project was done. This study has also analyzed the data collected from the
questionnaires applied by the military polices for the students who attended the
courses of the Cultural Ronda Project in the second semester of 2010, which the
goal was to know if the young people were comfortable with the presence of the
polices from this type of project and if this project provided a possibility of
approximation between the youth and the police. The research which supported this
present study was realized from June to December of 2010 and the locations of the
research included 6 (six) public schools of the State of Ceará, where the courses of
the Cultural Ronda Project were realized in the second semester of 2010. The
instrumental for data collection used was the questionnaire, which was applied for
the young people who participated in the courses, in the beginning and in the end of
those, besides the questionnaires about specific themes applied in rounds of
conversations. The goal of the application of the questionnaires was to verify if the
goals of the project had been completed successfully.
