It is known that garbage is one of the biggest responsible for environmental contamination.
The production of solid waste became inevitable in a consumer society, due to the need to
purchase more modern products, making trash production uncontrollable. Thus, the objective
of this work was to raise awareness in the school environment, developing environmental
education and sustainability through qualitative descriptive research, which consists of
applications of questionnaires and lectures showing our reality in the face of our consumer
and technological situation, expanding a new vision and use of natural resources aiming at
improving awareness within the school. Environmental Education seeks to value and improve
life, without excessive consumerism, without the waste of resources and without
environmental degradation. With the results obtained it was possible to perceive that the
students' perception regarding environmental education and sustainability is restricted to the
lack of basic information about importance of knowledge regarding the environment and the
preservation of natural resources, since they did not know the difference of means
environment and environmental education, as well as what was sustainability. It is concluded
that environmental education is a theme to be worked not only in the school environment, but
in the daily life of each individual so that more people become aware of this issue and become
better aware of the importance of the environment. With this work I could observe that, the
students need to have more involvement with the environmental issue inside the school, so
that they can become people knowledgeable of the benefits of the preservation of the nature;
essential to a quality life.
