“WE ARE THE 99%”: REFERENCIAÇÃO E EQUIVALÊNCIA NA CONSTRUÇÃO IDENTITÁRIA DO MOVIMENTO OCCUPY WALL STREET

RESUMO
Esta dissertação apresenta uma análise discursiva da construção identitária do movimento norte-americano Occupy Wall Street. Partindo do pressuposto de que toda identidade é resultado de uma prática articulatória, esta pesquisa busca investigar o modo de construção identitária do movimento durante a fase das ocupações, seu estágio inicial. Através das categoria sociodiscursiva de cadeia de equivalência e das categorias textual-discursivas de introdução referencial, anáfora e dêixis, as quais constituem o conjunto dos processos referenciais, tomo por objetivo analisar (a) quais expressões referenciais foram mobilizadas nos textos, permitindo aos referentes/elementos por elas instituídos passarem de uma lógica da diferença (referentes/elementos não articulados) a uma lógica da equivalência (referentes/elementos articulados), e (b) como esses mesmos referentes/elementos foram articulados e relacionados entre si na composição da cadeia de equivalência que constrói a identidade do movimento. Os referenciais teórico-metodológicos que fundamentam este trabalho são a teoria do discurso, e a teoria da referenciação, em seus recentes desdobramentos no âmbito da Linguística Textual. Como resultado da investigação, chegamos a uma identidade coletiva marcada pela indeterminação, cuja prática referencial/articulatória põe em equivalência referentes/elementos diversos e pouco especificados, de modo que faz com que o Occupy Wall Street, continuamente referenciado como “os 99%”, se constitua como um significante vazio.

ABSTRACT
This Master’s dissertation presents a discursive analysis of identity construction of the North American movement Occupy Wall Street. Assuming that every identity is the result of an articulatory practice, this research seeks to investigate the form of identity construction of the movement during the phase of occupations, its early stage. Through the socio-discursive category of chain of equivalence and the textual-discursive categories of referential introduction, anaphor and deixis, which constitute the set of referential processes, I aim to analyze (a) which referential expressions were mobilized in the texts, allowing referents/elements instituted by them move from a logic of difference (referents/elements not articulated) to a logic of equivalence (referents/elements articulated), and (b) how these same referentes/elements were articulated and related to each other the composition of the chains of equivalence composition that builds the movement identity. The theoretical frameworks that support this work are the theory of discourse and the referenciation theory, in its recent unfoldings within the Text Linguistics. As a result of investigation, we came to a collective identity characterized by indeterminacy, whose referential/articulatory practice brings into equivalence different and little specified referents/elements, so that it makes the Occupy Wall Street, continually referred to as "the 99%", to be constituted as an empty signifier.
