O bairro Benfica, localizado na cidade de Fortaleza, é um espaço que se destaca pelas diversas instituições de educação do ensino básico e superior, dentre elas a Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC). Essa instituição, ao longo do tempo, alterou significativamente a paisagem do bairro, principalmente com as diversas instalações administrativas e acadêmicas, assim como o intenso fluxo de pessoas nesse espaço, que mantém constantes relações com o bairro e a Universidade. A paisagem se destaca como um dos importantes conceitos da geografia. A partir dela, são verificadas as práticas culturais refletidas no dia a dia pelos sujeitos do bairro Benfica: moradores antigos, frequentadores, professores, alunos e funcionários da UFC. A pesquisa tem como objetivo entender as alterações na paisagem do bairro Benfica após a criação da UFC através da percepção das fotografias antigas pelos diferentes sujeitos que compõem o bairro. Na análise, a fotografia foi selecionada como fonte principal. A partir dela, é possível analisar as alterações na paisagem do bairro através da percepção dos sujeitos. Em virtude da importância desses, e de suas percepções, a base teórica e metodológica é fundamentada na abordagem realizada pela Nova Geografia Cultural e no método fenomenológico. Para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, foram necessários alguns procedimentos operacionais, tais como a revisão bibliográfica, a elaboração de mapas e o trabalho de campo. Nesse, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com os sujeitos da pesquisa. Juntamente com as entrevistas, foram mostradas diferentes fotografias antigas do bairro para os entrevistados. Com essas, foram obtidos resultados pertinentes acerca da percepção dos sujeitos sobre a paisagem. Para eles, a UFC possui grande relevância nas alterações na paisagem do Benfica, propiciando, ao mesmo tempo, a preservação do patrimônio cultural do bairro. Os sujeitos demonstraram que as relações que possuem com o bairro vão além de um simples lócus de trabalho, moradia, lazer e estudo, revelando sentimento de pertencimento com o lugar a partir da análise da paisagem.
The Benfica district, located in the city of Fortaleza, is a space that is distinguished by the different educational institutions of basic education and higher education, among them the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). This institution, over time, significantly alter the landscape of the neighborhood, especially with the various administrative and academic facilities, as well as the intense flow of people in that space, which maintains constant relations with the neighborhood and the University. The landscape stands as one of the important concepts of geography. From it, are verified cultural practices reflected in everyday life by the subject of the ancient dwellers Benfica: neighborhood regulars, teachers, students and employees of the UFC. The research aims to understand the changes in the landscape of the Benfica neighbourhood after the creation of the UFC through the perception of old photographs by different subjects that make up the neighborhood. In the analysis, the photograph was selected as primary source. From it, it is possible to analyze the changes in the landscape of the neighborhood through the perception of the subject. In view of the importance of these, and of their perceptions, the theoretical and methodological basis is based on the approach undertaken by the New Cultural geography and the phenomenological method. For the development of research, it took some operational procedures, such as the literature review, the preparation of maps and fieldwork. In this, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the subjects of the research. Along with the interviews, were shown different old photographs of the neighborhood for respondents. With those relevant results were obtained concerning the subjects ' perception about the landscape. For them, the UFC has great relevance in the changes in the landscape of Benfica, providing, at the same time, the preservation of the cultural heritage of the neighborhood. The subjects demonstrated that relationships that have with the neighborhood go beyond a single locus of work, housing, leisure and study, revealing sense of belonging with the place from the analysis of the landscape.
