ABSTRACT
In order for the synthesis of ammonia to occur through the Haber-Bosch process, hydrogen is
used with a high degree of purity. Thus, this work proposes to analyze the production process
of ammonia using solar hydrogen, obtained from the electrolysis of desalinated sea water, with
the use of photovoltaic solar energy. The pollutants and their respective quantities per unit of
ammonia produced were analyzed and related, proposing the substitution of the use of solar
energy instead of natural gas. The pollutants data are inserted in a computational mathematical
model and interrelated to parameters such as population, energy demand, gross domestic
product per capita of the state of Ceará, as well as the environmental gain through the analysis
of the pollutants generated in the production processes of ammonia. Faced with a worldwide
scenario for the search for protective measures to the environment, the results of this study
presented sustainable alternatives of ammonia production, using solar energy, a renewable and
ecologically clean source.
