LEGENDAGEM DE FILMES EM LÍNGUA INGLESA E PORTUGUESA: ANÁLISE DOS PARÂMETROS DE SEGMENTAÇÃO E VELOCIDADE DE LEGENDAS PARA OUVINTES

RESUMO
Esta tese está inserida no campo da Tradução Audiovisual, mais especificamente nos estudos da Legendagem. Na literatura sobre a pesquisa experimental em legendagem, a velocidade baixa (abaixo de 145ppm), a segmentação do texto audiovisual em uma linha e os problemas de segmentação linguística são considerados condições prejudiciais à recepção e ao processamento de legendas. Desta forma, esta pesquisa avaliou legendas para ouvintes, de filmes em DVD, nos contextos de língua inglesa e portuguesa, analisando a velocidade e os padrões de distribuição do texto audiovisual e de segmentação linguística encontrados e como eles se relacionam entre si e com aqueles da LSE de filmes em DVD e de programas de TV. Com subsídios da Linguística de Corpus, a metodologia utilizada foi a baseada em corpus, com a qual foram analisadas as legendas (em inglês e português) de cinco filmes estrangeiros em língua inglesa distribuídos no Brasil. Foram feitas as etapas de extração do corpus, utilizando o extrator de legendas de DVD SubRip; etiquetagem dos parâmetros técnicos e linguísticos da legendagem, com base no conjunto de etiquetas do Projeto CORSEL; e processamento dos dados com auxílio do programa WordSmith Tools 7.0. Verificou-se que a LO em inglês apresenta 45% de legendas com velocidade abaixo de 145ppm e 36% de legendas com velocidade de 180ppm e acima de 180ppm, 55% de legendas de uma linha e 4,2% de problemas de segmentação linguística, enquanto a LO em português apresenta 66% de legendas com velocidade abaixo de 145ppm, 62% de legendas de uma linha e 4,7% de problemas de segmentação linguística. Nas duas línguas, há uma predominância de legendas de velocidade abaixo de 145ppm, entretanto, em inglês, há um percentual expressivo de legendas rápidas, o que as torna rápidas em relação às legendas em português. A segmentação ou distribuição do texto audiovisual é feita predominantemente em uma linha de legenda, e todo o corpus apresentou tipos e subtipos de problemas de segmentação linguística semelhantes, havendo maior frequência de problemas no sintagma verbal, seguido dos sintagmas nominal e preposicional. Relacionando-se esses parâmetros, verifica-se que em inglês as legendas analisadas são rápidas e mal segmentadas e em português são lentas e mal segmentadas; desse modo, ambas têm sua qualidade comprometida e não condizem com os parâmetros preconizados nas pesquisas exploratórias, descritivas e experimentais da área. Abstract:
ABSTRACT This thesis is part of the Audiovisual Translation studies, more specifically the Subtitling studies. In the literature about experimental research in subtitling, low subtitle rate (below 145wpm), the audiovisual text segmentation in one line and linguistic segmentation problems are considered harmful conditions to the reception and the reading process of subtitles. Thus, this research evaluated DVD movies subtitles for the hearing, in the contexts of English and Portuguese languages, analyzing the subtitle rate and the patterns of audiovisual text distribution and linguistic segmentations found and how they compare to each other and to SDH subtitles from DVD movies and TV shows. With the assistance of Corpus Linguistics, the methodology used was based on corpus, with which we analyzed the subtitles (in English and Portuguese) from five English-language foreign movies distributed in Brazil. The corpus was obtained using the DVD subtitle extractor SubRip; then the technical and linguistic parameters of subtitling were annotated, based on the labels from Project CORSEL; and the data was processed using the software WordSmith Tools 7.0. It was observed that the corpus in English has 45% of subtitles below 145wpm and 36% at 180wpm and above 180wpm, 55% of one-line subtitles and 4.2% of linguistic segmentation problems, while the corpus in Portuguese has 66% of subtitles below 145wpm, 62% of one-line subtitles and 4.7% of linguistic segmentation problems. In both languages, subtitles below 145wpm are predominant; however, in English, there is also a high percentage of fast subtitles, which makes them fast when compared to the subtitles in Portuguese. The segmentation or distribution of the audiovisual text in one line is predominant, and the entire corpus revealed similar linguistic segmentation categories and subcategories, with a higher frequency of problems in the verbal syntagma, followed by noun and prepositional syntagmas. Connecting these parameters, it was observed that the subtitles analyzed are fast and ill segmented in English and slow and ill segmented in Portuguese; so, both have their quality compromised and neither follows the parameters preconized by the exploratory, descriptive and experimental researches in the area.
