The woman’s condition is litlle analysed by Spinoza and although it
appears in Ethics and in Theological-Political Treatise, is in Political Treatise
that this philosopher writes more about this subject. It is this work that we will
analyse, where the author writes about the woman and her possibility of
participation in democracy. While woman, feminist militant, and a student of the
Spinoza’s works, I couldn’t be ignorant of what he writes in this work. The form
how he analyses the question of the feminine can be connected with the
perspective of equality and difference treated in the studies of genus
philosophy. To this author, is not guaranteed to women the d uty of active
participation in democracy, respecting the women are always under another’s
domination, whether be her husbands or her parents. We will analyse the two
last paragraphs of this work, where the author says that the women aren’t, as
nature, equals to men, for that very reason they must be excluded of politics.
Another way of negation is the passions that the women arouse in men,
whereas they feel jealousy when perceive that are dividing the attention of his
lovers between others men. Spinoza is the only philosopher of the philosophical
tradition that makes possible to think an feminine ethical subject. For that very
reason, he is of great concern to the studies of feminine’s philosophy.
